Family Bank "Pesa Pap" TV campaign

A series of 15 sec TVs, the campaign was a huge success. Not my favourite work but I can bet 9/10 people know Pesa Pap!

Chip & PIN

It was originally meant to be a homage to KBC's classic cheesy detective show, Tahamaki, with the famous theme "Dunia ina mambo" as the soundtrack. A cool ad but the original idea was stronger in my big fat opinion.

Shake 6-pack TVC

This TV ad was the main part of a campaign to introduce the new Shake Flavoured Milk 6-pack. With a minimal production and media budget, it helped triple sales within the first month. Work done by David and I. We like it.

eabl Corporate ID pitch

eabl is East Africa Breweries Limited, one of Africa's largest companies. They were changing their corporate ID from a familiar symbol of barley and a bottle (and an upper case acronym) to an abstract graphic (and lower case acronym) communicating how the company "inspires life." According to the branding experts, the two bands represent "inspiration and unity". Unity within the company (it's 5 companies in one) as well as without (customers, community et al). Yeah. So David and I created a campaign to show all that. They did not like it. Oh well.

13.1.14 Magazine

We had fun with this one for a Men's magazine that was to be called 13.1.14. In the end, client hated the work and fired us. Later, the magazine came out as Adam.

Housing Finance- First HOP

On of Kenya's earliest digital campaigns, integrating print media with two microsites.

The brief was to launch a home ownership plan for first-time home owners. The product, as you can imagine, is quite a "serious" affair, full of stuff about eligibility, interest rates, tax benefits and other head-scratching details. Considering it is aimed at 25-35 year olds, it was a difficult sell for the marketing team. Easy pie for Oscar and I ;-) We tucked away all the details in a website then made a campaign on press and radio directing people to the site. In the process we did a job we liked and made one of the first TTL campaigns involving the internet as an integral part of the campaign. Check the sites: landlordlove.co.ke and firsthop.co.ke

Sadly, the microsites are no longer functional.

Mizoga, a documentary on NTV

Did this simple, one-hour brief at Y&R Nairobi with AD known as Oscar, a nice guy with a big head. Literally, not any other way.

Virgin Atlantic innaugral offer

Virgin launched their operations in Kenya with a discounted offer to London. The day they announced the offer also happened to be April o1. This one came on a silver platter, and it worked very well. Of course someone insisted on a follow-up ad for the following day!

Virgin Atlantic

Did these strips at Y&R Nairobi in 2007, following Virgin's entry to the Kenyan airline scene. They worked.

CFC Life Insurance

Life Insurance campaign aimed at newlyweds and new parents. Didn't see light of day :-(

PSI Reading Glasses Pitch

These concept boards helped us win the PSI Reading Glasses pitch at Y&R Nairobi in 2007. The brand name we created, GoGo, also helped. It is directly taken from Kenyan kid-speak. To most school kids, glasses are known as goggles, pronounced 'go-gos'. The name worked by making the intimidating idea of self-prescribed glasses (a first in Kenya) more friendly. Simply go to the shop, test your eyes and go home with your GoGos :-)

Aberdares Fence Project

Ad with coupon. Do they still do that? Yes, in some parts of the world.

Safaricom ReCall Campaign

Did this at Redsky in 2006. There were more examples for the campaign but client only ran the first one, with the addition of a call to action. It worked.

Nation Newspapers print idea

These were directions I developed for the Nation Newspapers pitch in 2005. My favourite is the first one, based on the fact that in all butcheries across Kenya they wrap your meat in newsprint. They ads never saw daylight but I still like them. (That's not the right colour, something wrong with the upload).

Kenchic Easter ad

Did this one last year at Y&R Nairobi, for Kenya's most famous kuku. For my non-Kenyan readers, kuku is Swahili for chicken.

Public Service poster

Did this in 2005 too. I don't know whether I like it or hate it. You? Unfortunately, it never ran, the project was canceled. I wonder what the reaction would have been.

Safaricom Credit Card Top-Up (Inserted in different newspaper pages)

Did this back in 2005 at Redsky (K). Was junior writer then. The forest floor of logos down there was a client mandatory. Still, they did not buy the ad, they ran one last year (yes, 2 years after the brief) with a very big Visa logo.

Safaricom blood donation drive ad

Did this ad while at Redsky (K) in 2006. A look at the actual Kenyan flag will make it clear to non-Kenyan readers. Ha, this ad finally won an award! Gold at the Scangroup awards December 2007. My AD from the Redsky days, Jesse Munene (one of the best around, IMO) collected the award. The ad finally ran on February 7th in the Daily Nation, so they might enter it in this year's APA awards. Will they give me writer credits, seeing that I now work for bitter rivals Y&R? Wacha tuone!
